Robert L Mauck

Dr. Robert L Mauck is the Mary Black Ralston Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He directs the McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory and the Biomechanics Core of the Penn Center for Musculoskeletal Disorders. As Co-Director of the Translational Musculoskeletal Research Center at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, he bridges clinical and engineering approaches to tissue regeneration.

His research focuses on engineering musculoskeletal tissues like articular cartilage, meniscus, and intervertebral disc through

• Mechanical and molecular analysis of tissue function
• Novel scaffold technologies
• Mechanobiologic culture systems

with applications from in vitro models to large animal studies.

Recent work highlights mechanoepigenetic regulation via Yap/Taz pathways, CD14's role in osteoarthritis, and innovative bioprinting techniques for anisotropic tissue constructs. His team's publications span top journals in Tissue Engineering, Biomechanics, and Regenerative Medicine.
