Robert James Algeo is an Associate Professor at Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), where he bridges creative practice with technological innovation in comics and digital media.
His research explores how comics interact with delivery technologies, specifically investigating biometrics, reading speed analytics, and eye-tracking systems to create adaptive narratives that respond to reader behavior in real-time. Algeo examines how comics can dynamically change based on focal points, expressions, and reading patterns, opening new possibilities for personalized storytelling and educational applications.
His notable creative achievements include:
- Howard E. Day Prize nomination for Skull Pen Issue One (2007)
- Twin Cities Metro Magazine Keeper Award for his body of work (2012)
As an educator and practitioner, Algeo brings extensive industry experience from collaborations with MTV, Sesame Street, Nickelodeon, and other major clients. He co-founded Autoptic, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to advancing independent comics and print-based media. His creative output includes comics series such as Monometric, Hum, and Thirty, reflecting his ongoing exploration of the evolving relationship between comics and their technological delivery systems.
