Robert J. Peterman is Professor and Mark H. and Margaret H. Hulings Chair in Engineering at Kansas State University's Department of Civil Engineering. A licensed professional engineer with industry experience at Precast Concrete Systems, he holds B.S. (Lafayette College), M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University. His research focuses on:
- Experimental evaluation of structures and materials
- Concrete and prestressed concrete systems
- Fiberglass structural applications
- Concrete-reinforcement bond analysis
- Bridge deck durability studies
- Time-dependent structural deformations
He developed ASTM A1096 (bond quality testing) and the 'Peterman Beam Test' adopted by PCI. As principal investigator on a $2.2M Federal Rail Administration grant, he researches concrete tie durability. Recognized with teaching awards including College of Engineering Meyers-Alford Teaching Award and four Chi Epsilon Outstanding Teaching Awards.
