Robert J. Jackson Jr. is the Nathalie P. Urry Professor of Law at New York University School of Law, serving as Director of the Jacobson Leadership Program in Law and Business, Co-Director of the Institute for Corporate Governance & Finance, and Director of the Program on Corporate Law and Policy. His expertise spans corporate law, securities regulation, and financial market policy. Previously, he served as a Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (2018–2020), advocating for investor protection and evidence-driven policymaking. Before academia, he practiced law at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, worked at Bear Stearns as an investment banker, and served as a senior policy advisor at the U.S. Treasury Department during the financial crisis.
He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in finance and philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania, an MBA from Wharton, a Master of Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School, and a JD from Harvard Law School. His research has influenced bipartisan legislation, including reforms addressing insider trading and securities market transparency. Key publications include works on corporate governance, financial regulation, and the intersection of law and economics.
