Robert Gerlai is The John Carlin Roder Distinguished Professor in Behavioural Neuroscience at the Department of Psychology, University of Toronto Mississauga. With a career spanning academia and industry across Europe and North America, he is recognized as a global leader in neurobehavioural genetics and the pioneer of zebrafish behavioural neuroscience research.
- Research focuses on molecular and neurobiological mechanisms of animal behavior
- Developed novel zebrafish behavioral testing tools
- Active in grant review panels for NIH, NSERC, Wellcome Trust, and other agencies
His laboratory has secured major funding including two NIH grants, three NSERC grants, and a Brain Canada-Industry collaborative grant. A dedicated educator, Dr. Gerlai teaches courses on animal behavior genetics and mechanisms of memory, while also delivering public lectures on controversial topics like the genetics of racism and evolution in human society.
