Dr Robert G. White serves as Lecturer in Media and Communication at Kingston University, appointed within the Department of Journalism, Publishing and Media under the Kingston School of Art. He leads the MA module Media and Globalisation examining media's dual role in reinforcing/resisting globalised neoliberalism and neocolonialism, with prior teaching experience at Edge Hill University and University of Brighton.
His academic credentials include a PhD in Film Studies and Critical Theory (Kingston University), MA in Film Studies (Kingston University), and BA in Politics (University of Leicester). He completed Kingston's Introduction to Learning and Teaching 1 course in 2016, holding Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Research centers on film-philosophy-politics intersections, specializing in global resistance cinemas—particularly Palestinian cinema. His doctoral topology-based analysis of partition and image resistance in Palestinian cinema evolved into current work applying Adorno's atonality and Said's counterpoint theories to deconstruct 'Image of Palestine' narratives through intertextual cinematic dialogue. This underpins his forthcoming monograph An Atonal Cinema: Resistance, Counterpoint and Dialogue in Transnational Palestine (Bloomsbury, 2023), building on his co-edited volume Spaces of Crisis and Critique: Heterotopias Beyond Foucault (2018) and publications in Film Criticism and Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies.
Teaching methodology implements structured 20-minute 'doing/thinking' cycles to maximize student application of theoretical concepts, extending from his EFL instruction background and HEA professional development commitment.
