Robert Fisher is a Professor at the Alberta School of Business, specializing in Marketing, Business Economics, and Law. He previously held faculty positions at the Richard Ivey School of Business (University of Western Ontario) and the University of Southern California. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan, an MBA from York University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado.
His research focuses on how social expectations influence managerial and consumer decisions, including enhancing cross-functional communication in new product development and marketing strategies for promoting social behaviors like volunteering. His work is published in leading journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research and Journal of Marketing, and he co-authored Internet Marketing in a Networked Economy.
Recent articles explore topics like moral claims in charitable support (2024), warranty effects on brand share (2024), and social desirability measures in organizations (2024). His 1996 article with Jakki Mohr and John Nevin won the Stern Award in 2003.
Fisher has advised major firms in North America and Asia, including Royal Bank, HSBC, Canadian Tire, and Allied Signal. He teaches courses such as Marketing Management and Strategy and a doctoral seminar on Philosophy of Science for Business Research.
