Robert Field is a Professor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Science at the University of East Anglia (UEA). He holds a PhD from UEA (1989) and has held academic roles at the University of St Andrews (1994–1999), the John Innes Centre (2007–2019), and the University of Manchester (2020–2024). His research focuses on carbohydrate chemistry, sustainable nutrition, and infectious diseases. Field is President of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Chemistry-Biology Interface Division and CEO of Iceni Diagnostics, a spin-out company.
Research interests span molecular science, with emphasis on polysaccharides, starch metabolism, and cross-kingdom collaborations. His work addresses global challenges like food security and green technology. Awards include the Royal Society of Chemistry Carbohydrate Award (1996) and the Iceni Diagnostics Longitude Prize (2016).
