Professor Mike Shipman is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at Durham University, supporting the Vice-Chancellor in delivering academic strategy while championing equality, diversity, and inclusion. Prior to joining Durham in August 2023, he held senior leadership roles at the University of Warwick, including Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), and served as Head of Chemistry.

- PhD in Chemistry, Imperial College London
As a chemical scientist with over 25 years of experience in organic chemistry research and teaching, he has led major STEM capital programs and secured the Race Equality Bronze Charter Mark Award for Warwick. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and a Chartered Chemist (CChem).

In his current role, Shipman oversees academic staff development and operational sustainability, including Durham’s Strategic Performance Indicator on Total Gross Emissions. His career spans leadership positions at Colorado State University, Exeter University, and Loughborough University.
