Maria J. Marin is an Associate Professor in Analytical Chemistry at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology. She is a member of the Centre for Photonics and Quantum Science, Chemistry of Life Processes, Chemistry of Light and Energy, and Chemistry of Materials and Catalysis. Her research focuses on nanomaterials for biosensing, diagnosis, and drug delivery systems, particularly in cancer therapy and photodynamic therapy (PDT). She holds a PhD from UEA (2012) and has extensive postdoctoral and industry experience, including roles at Iceni Diagnostics and the John Innes Centre.
- Education: BSc in Chemistry (University Jaume I, Spain, 2007), PhD in Analytical Bionanotechnology (UEA, 2012).
- Key Research Themes: Nanosensors for intracellular detection (e.g., pH, nitric oxide), glyconanoparticles for pathogen diagnosis, and nanomaterials for targeted drug delivery.
- Awards: 2014 Roscoe Gold Medal and Westminster Medal (SET for Britain).
Her work spans collaborations with institutions such as the University of Barcelona, University of Regensburg, and the Quadram Institute. She actively supervises PhD students and leads projects funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry and Iceni Diagnostics. Recent activities include organizing the Nanobiophotonics symposium and serving as an external PhD examiner.
