Robert Farley is a Professor of trumpet and Baroque trumpet at both The Royal Academy of Music and Trinity Laban in London. He is a prominent freelance trumpeter, collaborating with major orchestras such as The Philharmonia Orchestra of London, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. He holds principal trumpet positions with groups like The Orchestra of the Sixteen, Hanover Band, and Concerto Copenhagen, contributing to acclaimed recordings of works by Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi.
Robert studied at the Royal College of Music, where he earned the Ernest Hall Memorial Prize. His pedagogical contributions include publications such as Natural Trumpet Studies and Play Latin for Faber Music. He has presented masterclasses globally, including at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and the Early Music Festival of Curitiba, Brazil.
His research interests focus on historical performance practices, Baroque trumpet repertoire, and instrumental pedagogy. Notable recordings include A Courtly Garland for Baroque Trumpet and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. His work emphasizes the intersection of traditional techniques and modern performance contexts.
Awarded the Ernest Hall Memorial Prize during his studies, Robert’s career highlights include solo performances of Handel arias and collaborations with renowned artists like Emma Kirkby. His teaching spans both classical and jazz disciplines, reflecting a commitment to diverse musical traditions.
