Robert Eagle is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, UCLA, affiliated with the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. His research bridges biology, oceanography, geology, and climate science, focusing on organismal responses to environmental change and paleoclimatic reconstructions.
- Education: B.Sc (1st Class Honors) in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, University of Durham; Ph.D. in Natural Sciences, University of Cambridge
- Prior roles: Postdoctoral Researcher at Cambridge, Postdoctoral Fellow and Scholar at Caltech, Visiting Associate Professor at University of Copenhagen, Visiting Researcher at European Institute of Marine Sciences
Research Interests center on:
- Impact of climate change on marine biomineralization
- Ocean acidification and coral calcification resilience
- Clumped isotope thermometry for paleoclimate
- Environmental DNA (eDNA) applications in marine ecosystems
Recent Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to understanding:
- Marine calcifier vulnerability to climate shifts
- Geochemical proxies in corals, algae, and foraminifera
- Thermophysiology of extinct species like megalodon
Scientific Awards include:
- Pritzker Chair in Sustainability, IoES, UCLA
- LabEx Mer International Chair in Ocean Acidification
Advising: Mentoring graduate students Elijah Catalan, Gabriela Carr, and Pa-Shun Hawkins on projects related to marine infrastructure, kelp forests, and environmental DNA techniques.
