Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolisمعرفی
Robert E. Minto is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University, where he serves as Director of both the Center for Membrane Biosciences and the Mass Spectrometry Facility. His research integrates biochemistry, organic chemistry, and biophysics to investigate enzymatic mechanisms in lipid metabolism.
His primary research focuses on the isolation and characterization of novel desaturase and acetylenase enzymes from plants and Basidiomycetes fungi. Key projects include studying acetylenase genes from Indiana mushrooms like Fistulina hepatica and chanterelles, developing chemical probes for enzyme characterization, and examining lipid-bilayer interactions using solid-state NMR spectroscopy in collaboration with Prof. Gary Lorigan at Miami University. His work explores applications in nutritional enhancement of crops, eco-friendly lubricants, and antimicrobial agents.
Analysis of his publication record reveals strong emphasis on membrane protein structure-function relationships (42% of articles), natural product biosynthesis (33%), and innovative synthetic methodologies (25%). His research consistently bridges organic synthesis with biochemical characterization, particularly in unsaturated and acetylenic fatty acid pathways.
Minto maintains active laboratory facilities through his directorship of the Mass Spectrometry Facility and Center for Membrane Biosciences, supporting both his research program and broader university initiatives in lipidomics and membrane studies.
