معرفی
Robert E. Dempski is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). He holds affiliations with the Interactive Media and Game Development program and the Neuroscience Program. His research integrates membrane protein biochemistry with mixed reality technologies for workforce development. Dempski completed his B.S. at Bucknell University (1997) and Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry at MIT (2003), followed by postdoctoral training at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics. He leads the Intentional Design Studio, focusing on innovations in biochemistry education and AR/VR applications.
Research interests include zinc transporter mechanisms (hZIP4 in pancreatic cancer), optogenetic tools like channelrhodopsin-2, and developing AR tools for laboratory safety and biomedical visualization. His lab uses electrophysiology, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and computational modeling. Recent projects include AR-based safety training programs and flow chemistry apps for industry partners.
Dempski's work bridges basic science and applied technologies, with contributions to both Biophysical Journal and the Journal of Chemical Education. He collaborates with industry (e.g., Schneider Electric) and mentors students in interdisciplinary research. His lab facilities include advanced instrumentation like circular dichroism spectrophotometers and two-electrode voltage clamp systems.
