Sir Robert Chote is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Political Economy, King's College London. He chairs the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA) since 2022 and the Northern Ireland Fiscal Council (NIFC) since 2021. He will become President of Trinity College, Oxford in September 2025. Previously, he led the Office for Budget Responsibility (2010–2020), the OECD’s parliamentary budget network (2017–2020), and directed the Institute for Fiscal Studies (2002–2010). He has held roles at the IMF, Financial Times, and Independent, and currently serves on the board of Pacific Horizon Investment Trust and Ireland's Parliamentary Budget Office advisory panel.
Education: Economics (Queens’ College, Cambridge, Honorary Fellow), Journalism (City University London), Public Policy (Johns Hopkins SAIS). Awards include knighthood for services to fiscal policy (2021) and honorary doctorates from York and City University London.
Research focuses on fiscal policy, public finance, and banking. Key roles include governance positions at the London School of Economics’ Centre for Economic Performance and the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. His advisory work spans independent fiscal institutions and international economic policy.
