Robert Casares is an Associate Professor and Associate Online Program Director in the Department of Counseling at Wake Forest University since July 2017. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Counselor Education and Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Holy Cross (2016, 2014) and a B.A. in British and American Literature & Theology from Franciscan University (2005). His research focuses on family counseling, boomerang children, and the clinical and pedagogical applications of podcasts.
Dr. Casares has published extensively on integrating digital media into counseling education, including articles in The Family Journal and Journal of Creativity in Mental Health. He explores topics like telehealth ethics, social media impacts on adolescent mental health, and creative approaches to family therapy. His podcast work includes The Reframe and collaborations with journals such as The American Journal of Family Therapy.
A licensed counselor across multiple states, Casares has served on editorial boards and committees dedicated to advancing counseling practices. His presentations address digital safety, technology habits in families, and existential grief counseling. Casares combines clinical expertise with technological innovation in both teaching and therapeutic contexts.
