Robert DeLucia serves as Professor in the Department of Counseling at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York. A licensed mental health counselor and Clinical Member of the Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, he directed Counseling Services from 1990 to 2007 and currently advocates for faculty as the PSC union grievance counselor.
His academic credentials include:
- Ed.D. in Education and Family Studies from Fairleigh Dickenson University
- Master's in Counseling from Lehman College, CUNY
- Post-doctoral training in family therapy at Alfred Adler Institute (NYC), Bereavement and Grief studies at Calvary Hospital (Bronx), and Marriage and Family Counseling certification from Queens College, CUNY
Dr. De Lucia specializes in high-stress profession counseling, developing specialized programs for NYPD, FDNY, and NYCC personnel. His research interests integrate bereavement counseling, trauma-informed therapy for first responders, and cultural competency in law enforcement mental health support. He addresses unique psychological challenges faced by correction officers and firefighters through tailored therapeutic interventions.
As director of a specialized advisement program, he provides counseling services to in-service members attending John Jay College. His union role involves resolving faculty grievances and advocating for academic staff rights within the CUNY system.
