Robert Aaron Condit is renowned as the 'Father of Coe College.' He served as the institution's principal from 1875, primary instructor, and later as Professor of Ancient Languages and Literature. Upon retiring in 1906 after 31 years, he became Coe's first Professor Emeritus and received a $1,000 annual pension via the Carnegie Foundation. He temporarily led the college as acting president after President Marshall's 1896 death and served as Dean until 1897.
