Dr. Robert A. Griffin is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Early Childhood through Secondary Education at the University of West Georgia. He teaches graduate-level courses in Literacy/Reading Education and TESOL, drawing on 13 years of prior experience as a secondary ELA/ESOL teacher in Georgia public schools.

Dr. Griffin’s research focuses on reading motivation and achievement for multilingual learners, striving readers, and at-promise students. He challenges deficit-oriented paradigms through asset-based literacy practices, emphasizing morphological awareness, culturally responsive instruction, and inclusive pedagogies. His work spans early childhood to secondary education, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications in journals like Reading Psychology and Journal of Latinos and Education.
Recent publications highlight trends in multilingual literacy (2025), prosody instruction (2025), and read-aloud practices (2023). He serves as co-editor for the Georgia Journal of Literacy and former senior co-editor for the GATESOL Journal, while maintaining active roles on editorial boards in literacy and TESOL.
