Robert A Dobmeier serves as a Professor in the Counselor Education department at the State University of New York College at Brockport, holding dual credentials as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). Based in Brown Building 244, he maintains active clinical and advocacy roles while teaching core courses including Leadership and Advocacy, Research and Program Evaluation, and Spirituality in Counseling. Dobmeier's research critically examines spirituality integration in therapeutic practice across diverse populations, mental health service delivery on college campuses, and systemic barriers to professional recognition including Medicare reimbursement advocacy. His scholarship directly informs clinical approaches for co-occurring disorders and recovery pathways in institutional settings like correctional facilities.
As a founding member of ACA-NY and former Co-President of the New York Association of Counselor Education and Supervision, he spearheaded scope-of-practice expansions for mental health counselors in New York State. His leadership extends to the Association for Adult Development and Aging where he chaired the Public Policy Committee to advance counselor reimbursement under Medicare.
