Dr Robbie Love is a Senior Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at Aston University, based in the Department of Communication and Culture within the School of Law and Social Sciences. He holds leadership roles including Programme Director of the BA (Hons) Digital Media and Communication and Programme Development Lead. His research focuses on corpus linguistics, applied linguistics, and discourse analysis, particularly in spoken language variation, forensic linguistics, and educational language challenges. Love co-directs the Aston Corpus Linguistics Research Group and hosts the CorpusCast podcast, exploring corpus methodologies' societal applications.
Education: PhD (2018), MA (2014), and BA (2013) in English Linguistics from Lancaster University, with specialization in corpus approaches through the ESRC Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science. Notable projects include designing the Spoken British National Corpus 2014 and analyzing language in pandemic communication, forensic contexts, and educational materials.
Awards include multiple teaching accolades from Aston University and recognition for public engagement. His work bridges academia and practice, addressing real-world issues like language in education, legal contexts, and societal discourse. Love also contributes to professional bodies such as the British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL), editing BAAL News and leading its Corpus Linguistics Special Interest Group.
