Rob Jackson is the Michelle and Kevin Douglas Provostial Professor at Stanford University and Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment and Precourt Institute for Energy. He chairs the Global Carbon Project and leads research on climate change impacts, methane emissions, and energy extraction effects.
- Stanford University: School of Earth Sciences
- Global Carbon Project
- Woods Institute for the Environment
- Precourt Institute for Energy
His research focuses on greenhouse gas emissions, environmental policy solutions, and ecosystem responses to climate stressors. Key areas include methane dynamics in tropical forests, urban air pollution from gas infrastructure, and carbon budgeting through global networks like the Global Carbon Project.
Recent scientific awards include the Blue Planet Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, and multiple academy fellowships. His lab has mentored researchers now leading at institutions like the University of Oregon, MIT, and PSE Healthy Energy.
- Fellow, American Academy of Arts and Sciences
- Fellow, American Geophysical Union
- Presidential Early Career Award (NSF)
Key publications show trends in methane emissions, urban infrastructure risks, and climate policy impacts. His work combines field measurements (Amazon methane towers, Boston gas leaks) with modeling to inform policy.
