Dr. Rob Hamilton is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with secondary appointment in the Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences program. His creative research explores the intersections of musical systems, interactive environments, and emerging technologies.
Research Focus:
- Virtual reality musical instruments and performance systems
- Networked and collaborative music environments
- AI-mediated composition and improvisation
His recent work includes developing extended reality performance platforms and investigating AI's role in creative musical practice. Current courses include Music and Technology II and interdisciplinary seminars on Music & AI.
Dr. Hamilton serves on boards of the Electronic Music Foundation Institute and Empire State Youth Orchestra, maintaining active creative practice through installations, performances, and system development.
