Rita Goyal, PhD, MA, BSc, is an Assistant Professor (Research) at Coventry University’s Research Centre for Financial & Corporate Integrity, and Academic Conduct Officer for research. She specializes in board diversity, corporate governance, and leadership. Her work focuses on women on boards, board effectiveness, and gender-based discrimination. She supervises PhD students and serves as an external examiner for the University of Salford and St Mary’s University. Previously, she led the MBA program at Coventry University, achieving significant enrollment growth.
Dr. Goyal holds a PhD in Corporate Governance from Henley Business School, an MA in Medieval History (Silver Medal), and a BSc in Mathematics (First Class). She is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and a Chartered Management and Business Educator. Her research has been published in top journals and presented globally at conferences like EURAM and GWO.
Her research interests include board diversity mechanisms, enlightened leadership, and functional diversity. Recent studies examine the glass-cliff phenomenon in female board appointments and religious influences on governance. She has secured grants for projects on NHS board assurance frameworks and international university alliances. Awards include the 2024 Best Peer-Reviewer Award and recognition for top-cited articles in Gender, Work & Organisation.
