Dr. Rimke Groenewold is a Research Fellow at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Medical Sciences and an Adjunct Lecturer at Edith Cowan University. Her expertise spans linguistics, communication studies, and aphasia, with a focus on everyday interaction, spontaneous speech, and communication challenges in aphasia patients. She holds a PhD from the University of Groningen (2014) and has held roles including Study Advisor in Linguistics and coordinator of AfasieNet, the Netherlands.
Her research explores compensatory communication strategies in aphasia, such as direct speech and enactment, with publications in Aphasiology and International Journal of Language & Communication Disorders. She has secured a two-year NWO Rubicon grant for collaborative research on aphasia and interaction. Her work also includes cross-cultural communication studies and curriculum development in communication sciences.
Recent projects include VR applications for aphasia therapy and translational studies on communicative self-confidence. She actively contributes to academic organizations like the PhD Council for the Humanities and the Neurolinguistics Research Group.
