Emar Maier

Dr. Emar Maier is an Associate Professor at the University of Groningen, affiliated with both the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Arts. He leads research in the Neurolinguistics and Language Development (NLD) group, focusing on:

• Linguistic and philosophical analysis of indexicals, pronouns, and free indirect discourse
• Discourse representation theory and its applications
• Cross-modal perspective shifts in narrative and visual communication
• Pragmatic functions of quotation and reporting

• Pictorial language semantics and emoji interpretation
• AI's impact on linguistic theory
• Historical philosophical puzzles about future contingents
