Dr. Rifat Atun is a Professor of Global Health Systems at Harvard University and holds visiting professorships at Imperial College London (Department of Infectious Disease, Faculty of Medicine), the University of Kyoto, and the University of Fukushima. He previously served as Professor of International Health Management and Head of the Health Management Group at Imperial College London (2006–2013). His research focuses on health systems transformation, innovation adoption, and global health financing. He is affiliated with the NIHR HPRU in Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance, and co-leads innovation workstreams at Imperial College's National Centre for Infection Prevention and Management.
- Education: MBBS (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, University of London), Executive MBA (Imperial College London), Fellowships from Royal College of General Practitioners, Faculty of Public Health, and Royal College of Physicians (UK).
His research spans health technology diffusion, disease control programs, and primary healthcare reforms. He advises governments, WHO, World Bank, and multinational corporations on health system reforms. He has published over 375 papers in top journals like NEJM, Lancet, and JAMA.

He advises the Longitude Prize Committee, WHO, and global health initiatives. Previously chaired the STOP TB Partnership Coordinating Board and served on PEPFAR, GLOBVAC, and MRC boards. Founded Imperial’s MSc in International Health Management and directed health-tech spin-off companies.
