Dr. Rick Woods is an Associate Professor in the School of Sustainability, Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Surrey. He holds a PhD and BSc, and is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with memberships in the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE) and the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Previously serving as Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), his academic leadership complements his technical expertise.
His research focuses on geotechnical engineering challenges, including numerical modeling of seepage, groundwater dynamics, and unsaturated soil behavior. Notable areas include software development for seepage analysis, trench drainage systems, and steel catenary riser testing. His work intersects with urban hydrology and educational program development, particularly in higher education curriculum design.
Publications span over three decades, reflecting contributions to computational hydraulics, geomechanical modeling, and engineering education. While no specific awards are listed, his sustained output demonstrates impactful scholarly engagement. His advisory roles and interdisciplinary focus highlight a commitment to advancing both technical and pedagogical frontiers in civil engineering.
