Rick Pappas is a retired Professor of Physical Education at Wichita State University (WSU), recognized for his innovative approach integrating physical activity with academic disciplines. He spent 43 years teaching in Wichita Public Schools and WSU, emphasizing holistic education beyond the gym. His career was marked by creativity, such as developing 'vowel tag' and 'magnetic wand' activities to teach math and science concepts through movement.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Kansas State University (1971)
- Switched to Physical Education following a career-defining moment during an elementary school performance.
Research & Innovation: Pappas pioneered hands-on, interdisciplinary teaching methods, blending PE with math, science, and geography. He secured a Boeing grant to develop equipment for these activities. His philosophy centers on building student-teacher relationships and fostering joy in learning.
