Amy DeVault is an Assistant Professor in the Elliott School of Communication at Wichita State University (WSU), part of the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She joined WSU in 2007 after a five-year tenure as a visual journalist at The Wichita Eagle, where she designed front pages and contributed to award-winning multimedia projects.

Research & Teaching: DeVault specializes in digital media, journalism education, and experiential learning. She co-founded the Flint Hills Media Project, an interdisciplinary course blending multimedia journalism with community engagement. Her work emphasizes visual communication, including photojournalism and news design. She is a certified Master Journalism Educator (MJE) and actively mentors scholastic journalism programs.

Professional Contributions: She serves as teaching chair of the Visual Communication division at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and has presented at national conferences for AEJMC and the Broadcast Educators Association.
