Richard Willis is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Sustainable Practice, Lipscomb University. He joined NCAT (National Center for Asphalt Technology) in January 2009 as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. His education includes a BS in Physical Science from Freed-Hardeman University (2003), a BCE from Auburn University (2004), and a Master's in Civil Engineering from Auburn University (2005).
His research focuses on pavement performance, specifically linking laboratory testing to field measurements for asphalt materials. Current projects include studying warm-mix asphalt with high RAP (reclaimed asphalt pavement) content and leading National Cooperative Highway Research Program Project 9-55 on recycled asphalt shingles integration. He is a member of the Federal Highway Administration’s Sustainable Pavements Technical Working Group and has conducted workshops on recycled materials in asphalt mixtures.
He has served on the FHWA’s Asphalt Recycling Expert Task Group and actively contributes to sustainable pavement initiatives through applied research and industry collaboration.
