Benjamin Bowers is the McCartney-Chase Highway Engineering Distinguished Associate Professor of Pavements and Materials in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. (Civil Engineering, University of Tennessee, Knoxville), M.S. (Civil Engineering, University of North Carolina at Charlotte), and B.S. (Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of North Carolina at Charlotte). His research focuses on sustainable pavement design, infrastructure resilience, and the integration of reclaimed materials into transportation systems.
Key projects include a $1.25M FAA grant on airfield pavement resilience and a $1.539M NOAA grant addressing sea level rise impacts. He co-led Auburn’s team honored with the FHWA Environmental Excellence Award and received the Resilient Roads Roundtable’s Innovators and Influencers Award. Bowers is a principal investigator for NCAT test track studies and actively involved in industry initiatives like the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s carbon emissions task force.
His work bridges academia and practice through collaborations at the Alabama Transportation Conference and the Transportation Research Institute. Bowers contributes to advancing cold recycling techniques, polymer-modified asphalt, and resilient infrastructure policies, emphasizing sustainability and cost optimization in transportation systems.
