Dr. Fabricio Leiva is an Assistant Professor in the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Auburn University (2012), an MBA from UNED Costa Rica (2005), and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Costa Rica (2003). His research focuses on asphalt binder characterization, pavement design, recycled materials integration, and non-destructive testing. Dr. Leiva has held roles including Assistant Research Professor at Auburn (2016–2022), Lecturer at Clemson (2022, part-time), and researcher/lecturer at the University of Costa Rica (2012–2016).
His work emphasizes sustainable pavement technologies, pavement preservation, and material performance evaluation. Notable contributions include studies on recycled asphalt shingles, RAP utilization, and full-scale accelerated pavement testing. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and a member of ASCE, ISIC, and TRB AKM10.
- Research Highlights: Asphalt mixture design, pavement durability, intelligent construction, and environmental impact assessments.
- Awards: Kenyon Fellowship (2009–2012), Gottlieb Fellowship (2010), Brasfield & Gorrie Fellowship (2012).
- Key Projects: NCAT Test Track findings, density profiling systems evaluation, and pavement preservation strategies.
Dr. Leiva’s research bridges laboratory and field applications, with recent focus on low-carbon asphalt alternatives and recycled material integration. His work is published in journals like ASTM Journal of Testing and Evaluation and Transportation Research Record.
