Richard Waller is a Professor of Education and Social Justice at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol. He holds leadership roles including co-leading the Equity and Education strand of the Education and Childhood Research Group and overseeing UWE's REF submissions. His career spans academic roles since 2003, with prior experience in civil service, FE teaching, and university widening participation initiatives.
Research focuses on education's intersection with social class, identity, and justice. Key collaborations include the South West Centre for Excellence in Teaching Training and the Paired Peers project. He has authored/co-authored 9 books, over 30 journal articles, and edited volumes. Waller sits on boards like the Network for Evaluating and Researching University Participation Interventions (NERUPI) and the British Sociological Association.
Teaching includes MA modules in Sociology of Education, EdD supervision, and doctoral training. He has mentored 22 PhD completions and currently supervises 3 PhD/5 EdD candidates.
