Richard Thompson is a doctoral student at Linköping University, affiliated with the Physiotherapy Unit under the Department of Prevention, Rehabilitation and Close Care (PRNV) and Department of Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences (HMV). His work focuses on developing digital educational tools to improve musculoskeletal pain management in primary care settings through the PainSMART project.

Richard collaborates with colleagues including Professor Allan Abbott and Assistant Professor Kajsa Johansson. His publications include a 2025 PLOS ONE article detailing the PainSMART strategy and a 2021 qualitative study on dry needling in elite athletes.
