Richard Serros is a Professor in the Art Department at Modesto Junior College, where he has taught art history and studio art for over two decades. He earned a doctorate in Art History from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1999, focusing on Andrea del Verrocchio and his studio, including Leonardo da Vinci, Perugino, and Credi. His academic training began at Manteca High School (1973) and Modesto Junior College (1975), followed by advanced studies at UC Santa Barbara (1981–1987).
Richard's research and artistic practice bridges the Italian Renaissance with contemporary explorations of mythology, cosmology, and human cognition. His work evolves from psychological and mythological imagery to abstract representations of physics and mental spaces, emphasizing color-space relationships. Notable projects include the collaborative Corazon del Valle mural and the Satyr’s Dance triptych, where he challenged compositional norms.
As an active artist, he exhibits nationally, including at Modesto’s Mistlin Gallery. He integrates his expertise in art history with hands-on teaching, mentoring students in oil painting and figure drawing. His studio in Modesto serves as a hub for creative experimentation and community engagement, such as public art events and sabbatical-driven travel to Europe for artistic inspiration.
