Richard Sandell is a Professor in the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester and co-director of the Research Centre for Museums and Galleries. His work focuses on leveraging museums as agents for human rights, social justice, and equality through collaborative projects with cultural institutions. He co-authored Museum Activism (2019) and authored Museums, Moralities and Human Rights (2017), which won a major Canadian award for research in cultural heritage.
His research emphasizes ethical practices in museums, including how institutions can address contemporary societal challenges. He actively collaborates with international museums and heritage organizations to advance inclusive policies and community engagement. Recent accolades include recognition from the Canadian Museums Association for his impactful research contributions.
