Richard Robinson is a Visiting Professor at Jagiellonian University's Institute of Entrepreneurship since 2023, where he contributes his expertise in service work and employment studies. He brings a unique professional background, having spent 18 years as a chef before transitioning to academia, followed by 19 years at University of Queensland, Australia. In 2024, he joined Northumbria University, UK, where he currently holds a three-year Vice Chancellor Fellowship. Additionally, he serves as Adjunct Professor at Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, and Visiting Professor at University of Stavanger, Norway.
Research Focus: Professor Robinson specializes in service work and employment across diverse sectors including tourism, hospitality, leisure, transport, retail, and welfare/social services. His work examines these contexts within formal, gig, and grey economies, exploring critical themes such as fair, safe and sustainable work practices, mental health and wellbeing in service industries, career development and vocational pathways, and skills training initiatives.
Teaching and Leadership: He has extensive experience leading undergraduate and postgraduate courses in operations, management, critical studies, and professional development. His teaching expertise has been recognized through awards and advisory appointments at state, national, and international levels. He has held significant university leadership positions in higher degree research portfolios and contributed to community initiatives through an internationally confederated charity.
