Professor Steven Kyffin holds an Adjunct Professorship at Monash University's Department of Design. He currently serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Business and Enterprise) at Northumbria University, a role he has held since 2016. Previously, he was Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Arts, Design and Social Sciences (2012–2016) and Dean of Northumbria School of Design (2010–2012).
His career spans academia and industry: he spent 12 years at Philips Electronics as Senior Director of Design Research and Innovation, leading global design research and European Commission projects. He founded a design consultancy, directed Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art (1995–98), and holds leadership roles in sustainable design and higher education.
Education: Honorary Doctorate in Civil Law (Northumbria University, 2009); Master's in Design (Royal College of Art, 1984); Honours in Industrial Design (Northumbria University, 1981).
Research focuses on industrial design and sustainable innovation, aligning with UN SDGs. Awards include Fellowships from the Royal College of Art and Royal Society of Arts.
