Richard Newman is a Part-Time Lecturer in Art History at Boston College's Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a B.A. in Art History from Western Washington University and an M.A. in Geology from Boston University. His primary role is Head of Scientific Research at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (since 1998), with additional experience as a Research Scientist there since 1986. Newman has held roles at Harvard University Art Museums, MIT's CMRAE, and Wellesley College.

- Member of IRUG Board directing infrared/Raman spectroscopy initiatives
Research focuses on technical analysis of artworks using advanced instrumentation. Notable publications include studies on Velázquez paintings, Egyptian mummy portraits, and Salvator Mundi materials analysis. Awards include prestigious fellowships from Japan Foundation and Indo-American Subcommission.
