Richard Lee is an Assistant Professor in Public Health at Northumbria University, UK. He holds dual roles as a UCU representative for SWECW and Health & Safety. His research focuses on public health, food insecurity, social inequities, and socio-material infrastructures. He completed his PhD in 2010 at Newcastle University with a thesis on food standardization policies.
His academic career includes roles as Senior Research Associate at Newcastle University (2011-2018) and Research Associate at the University of Sheffield (2010-2011). Recent projects include British Academy-funded research on food assistance organizations and community perspectives in Hartlepool.
Research interests span public health policy, qualitative methods synthesis, aging populations, and the politics of regulatory knowledge. He serves on the editorial board of BMC Geriatrics and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and sustainable communities.
Recent publications explore utility renationalization, ADHD diagnostic journeys, and community-driven policy development. Current projects investigate climate action perceptions and health/wellbeing priorities in Hartlepool through participatory methodologies.
