Richard L. Young

Richard L. (Rick) Young serves as an Adjunct Professor in Computer Science at both St. Mary’s College of Maryland (since 2024) and the College of Southern Maryland (since 2017). He is the Director of Science & Technology (S&T) at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Webster Outlying Field (NAWCAD WOLF), leading innovation projects, technology transitions, and workforce development initiatives. Previously, he held roles in the U.S. Navy and as a contractor, specializing in network administration, command & control systems, and operations research.

Education includes a B.S. in Computer Science (Frostburg State University, 2004) and an M.S. in Computer Information Systems (Florida Institute of Technology, 2016). His professional experience spans 20 years, with expertise in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and supporting U.S. Special Operations Command missions. He oversees NAWCAD WOLF’s innovation efforts and participates in the WOLF Leadership Team.

Research interests focus on leveraging technology for defense and civilian applications, including rapid prototyping, lab revitalization, and interdisciplinary collaboration. His work integrates academic teaching with applied research to address real-world challenges in defense systems and information technology.
