معرفی
Richard Kimball is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Presidential Professor in Ocean Engineering and Energy at The University of Maine. He holds a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from MIT (2001). His roles include Director of the Marine Engine Testing and Emissions Laboratory at Maine Maritime Academy and technical lead for the UMaine DeepCwind project. He specializes in offshore wind energy systems, marine engine performance, and low-emission fuel technologies.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2001
Research Interests: Focuses on floating offshore wind systems, marine diesel engine emissions reduction, tidal energy systems, and advanced propeller design. His work integrates experimental testing with computational modeling, particularly in wave basin simulations and turbine dynamics.
Major Projects:
- DOT UTC $4.2M grant for Marine Engine Testing Lab (2013–2019)
- Lead advisor for UMaine's DeepCwind floating wind turbine testing at MARIN (Netherlands)
- Development of the UMaine W2 Wind/Wave Basin for wind system design
Professional Activities: Serves as New England Regional Chair for SNAME and ABET evaluator for Marine Engineering programs. Active in industry collaborations with DOT, DOE, NSF, and MTI sponsors.
Labs & Teams: Oversees the Marine Engine Testing and Emissions Laboratory and contributes to cross-institutional offshore energy initiatives.
