Richard J. Antaya

Richard J. Antaya is a Professor of Dermatology, Pediatrics and Nursing at Yale School of Medicine, where he serves as Director of Pediatric Dermatology, Fellowship Director for Pediatric Dermatology, and Medical Director of Yale Dermatology New Haven. With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Antaya specializes in the diagnosis and management of all skin diseases affecting infants, children, and adolescents.

Dr. Antaya's research focuses on pediatric skin disorders, particularly vascular anomalies, atopic dermatitis, genetic skin conditions, and laser treatments for vascular lesions. He is the founder and past Chair of Yale Medicine's multidisciplinary Vascular Anomalies and Malformations Program (VAMP) and sees patients at the Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Center. He runs a weekly pediatric vascular anomalies clinic offering pulsed dye laser surgery to correct vascular lesions, significantly improving children's appearance and confidence levels.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on the mental health impact of pediatric skin conditions, novel treatments for atopic dermatitis including biologic medications, and vascular malformations. Dr. Antaya is currently conducting clinical trials for adolescents with severe atopic dermatitis using new biologic medications and for children with chilblains.

Dr. Antaya teaches medical students, physician assistant students, advanced practice nursing students, and residents in both dermatology and pediatrics. He is deeply committed to patient care, stating: 'Being able to help patients find relief from all varieties of skin, hair, nail and sweat gland disorders is incredibly gratifying and is my life mission. I am passionate about forming strong relationships with my patients and their families. I enjoy being their advocate and advisor to assist them in navigating the complexities of modern medicine.'

He is actively involved in the Pediatric Multidisciplinary Neurocutaneous Clinic and has established a robust clinical practice and research program focused on improving outcomes for children with complex dermatological conditions.
