Walter J Liszewski

Walter J Liszewski is an Associate Professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, with dual appointments in the Department of Dermatology (Medical Dermatology) and the Department of Preventive Medicine (Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention). He specializes in allergic contact dermatitis and operates a comprehensive patch testing clinic that identifies patient allergies to chemicals, with particular expertise in tattoo, cosmetic, and personal care product allergies.

Dr. Liszewski's educational background includes a BA from Grinnell College (2008), an MD from Tulane University (2015), a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Copenhagen in Dermatology Research (2014), an Internal Medicine internship at Louisiana State University School of Medicine (2016), and Dermatology residency at the University of Minnesota (2019).

His research focuses on allergic contact dermatitis mechanisms and treatments, with special attention to tattoo complications and atopic dermatitis. Recent work examines allergens in hair relaxer products for textured hair populations, novel biologic treatments like nemolizumab and upadacitinib for refractory skin conditions, and the impact of social media on pediatric skincare practices.

Dr. Liszewski leads multiple clinical trials investigating upadacitinib for hidradenitis suppurativa and atopic dermatitis, as well as amlitelimab for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis.
