معرفی
Richard Herd is an Associate Professor at the University of East Anglia (UEA) within the School of Environmental Sciences and a member of the Geosciences research group. He holds the role of Director of Admissions in his department. His academic journey includes a Geology BSc from the University of St Andrews and a PhD from Lancaster University, followed by postdoctoral research at Lancaster and ten years at volcano observatories in Montserrat and Hawaiʻi.
Key research interests focus on lava flow dynamics, magma degassing mechanisms, explosive volcanism, and active volcano monitoring. His work emphasizes ground deformation measurements, lava dome topography analysis, and sulfur dioxide flux monitoring. He has contributed to major projects such as STREVA (Strengthening Resilience in Volcanic Areas) and ongoing initiatives like the Distributed Strain, Temperature and Acoustic seNsing Suite (DiSTANS).
Prof. Herd’s research spans collaborations with institutions globally, including studies on Indonesian volcanoes like Merapi and Martian geology through projects like 'What can Olympus Mons tell us about the Martian lithosphere?'
