Richard Hall is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Infectious Diseases at the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia. His research focuses on disease ecology, modeling infectious disease dynamics, and the impacts of environmental factors such as climate change and human activities on wildlife and vector-borne diseases. He explores how resource subsidies, habitat specialization, and urbanization influence pathogen transmission in wildlife populations.
Dr. Hall’s expertise spans zoonotic diseases, vector-borne infections, and the evolution of virulence in pathogens. His work integrates field studies, mathematical modeling, and experimental approaches to address real-world challenges like guinea worm control in dogs and disease risks in fisheries. He emphasizes the ecological and social dimensions of disease management, advocating for structured decision-making frameworks in conservation and public health.
Recent research highlights include studies on temperature thresholds for malaria transmission, the effects of food provisioning on parasite virulence, and the role of light pollution in West Nile virus exposure.
