معرفی
Richard Guy is a Professor in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bath, with extensive affiliations across interdisciplinary research centres, including the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CSCT), Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Centre for Therapeutic Innovation, Centre for Mathematical Biology, and Centre for Bioengineering & Biomedical Technologies (CBio). He maintains an active research profile with a substantial publication record and leadership in major research projects.
His research focuses on transdermal and topical drug delivery, with particular expertise in dermatopharmacokinetics, iontophoresis, reverse iontophoresis, and the bioequivalence of topical formulations. He investigates how drugs penetrate and are cleared from the skin, utilizing advanced techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, mass spectrometry imaging, and reverse iontophoresis for non-invasive monitoring. His work also explores the use of nanoparticles, film-forming systems, and laser ablation to enhance drug delivery.
Analysis of his recent publications (2023–2025) reveals a strong trend in non-invasive and imaging-based methodologies for visualizing and quantifying drug distribution in skin. His work integrates analytical chemistry (Raman, mass spectrometry) with pharmaceutical formulation science to solve problems in dermatology and transdermal delivery. There is a consistent theme of method development for assessing bioavailability and bioequivalence, often applied to corticosteroids and other dermatological agents.

Professor Guy has supervised 18 research students and leads 22 research projects, indicating a significant role in academic mentoring and grant-funded research. His work often involves collaboration with industrial and clinical partners, particularly in the development of diagnostic devices and regulatory science initiatives. He has contributed to policy discussions on regulatory science in Europe.
He is a key member of several research centres at Bath, fostering a collaborative environment that bridges chemistry, engineering, biology, and medicine for the development of innovative drug delivery technologies and diagnostic tools.
