Richard Greenfield is a Professor of History at Queen's University (Kingston, Canada), holding a cross-appointment in Classics. His research focuses on Byzantine popular religion, with specializations in hagiography, monasticism, and magical practices across 1,000 years of Byzantine history. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of London (1985) and has held academic roles since 1988, including Department Chair (2003-2009) and union leadership. His editorial work co-edits Harvard University Press' Dumbarton Oaks Medieval Library Greek series. Current projects include studies of medieval Greek medical-magical manuscripts and Crusader-Byzantine interactions.
