Dr. Pamela Armstrong is a Senior Research Fellow in Byzantine Cultural History at Campion Hall, University of Oxford. Her career spans decades of archaeological fieldwork across Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey, with a focus on integrating textual analysis with material evidence to study ecclesiastical and monastic history.

Her research bridges Byzantine archaeology with hagiography, examining early monasticism across Egypt, Syria, Bithynia, the Aegean islands, and Insular Britain. Current projects include a volume on middle Byzantine monasticism in Greece and analysis of pottery from the monastery of Satyros in Constantinople.
Her publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches, including studies on Byzantine ceramics, trade networks, and rural landscapes. She founded the Oxford Byzantine Ceramics Project and organized international seminars in Athens.
